Southern Africa Classic

This exciting itinerary begins in Zambia, where you will view the iconic Victoria Falls, cruise the mighty Zambezi, and have your fill of either relaxing or adrenaline pumping activities. Travel into the remote wilderness regions of Botswana for superior wildlife viewing, then into the Kalahari Desert for endless stars, specially adapted wildlife, and Bushmen interactions. Finish your time in Africa in Cape Town, famous for its food and wine, beautiful beaches, unique culture, and of course, Table Mountain.

Day 1 and 2

The Smoke That Thunders

Known by the local people as Mosi-oa-tunya – “The smoke that thunders”, the Victoria Falls is truly awe-inspiring. Take a tour of the Falls from both the Zambia and Zimbabwe sides, have drinks on a sunset cruise along the river, and walk with rhino in the Zambezi National Park.

If you are on the adventurous side, you may wish to bunjee jump from the bridge, zip line across the gorge, or take a white water rafting trip. There are so many activities on offer in the Victoria Falls area that one will always have options! From elephant interactions to school visits, microlight rides to helicopter flights, the Victoria Falls has something for everyone!

Day 3, 4

After breakfast, you will be transferred by road to the Kazungula border crossing. Taking a small boat across the river, you will then carry on to the small Kasane airport for your light aircraft transfer to the Linyanti. Highlights here include African wild dog, elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, hippo, giraffe, roan antelope, and a wide variety of birds. Experience day and night time game drives, guided walks, and boating (depending on water levels), for excellent wildlife viewing.

Day 5, 6, 7

Into the Delta

Prepare yourself for an extraordinary experience in the beautiful Okavango Delta!

Spectacular scenery and remoteness, coupled with incredible wildlife, make this a truly unforgettable destination. Be it on a game drive or relaxing in camp, you will never be far from the roaming plains game, the prowling predator and the vibrant bird life. Cruise through the crystal clear waterways of the Delta on a traditional mokoro, looking out for the tiny reed frogs as you go.

On game drives you can expect to see giraffe, buffalo, red lechwe, hippo, crocodile, elephant and  large predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyaena, wild dog, and the rare sitatunga. Birds abound in this area, and species such as the southern pied babbler, rufous-bellied heron, lesser jacana, slaty egret and wattled crane are readily spotted.

Day 8, 9, 10

Makgadikgadi Pans

Head to the Makgadikgadi Pans for a totally unique experience unlike anything else!

The experience here is varied and combines wildlife with culture, history, archaeology and geology. Activities on offer all year round include interacting with incredibly friendly habituated meerkats, walking with Bushmen guides, game drives to experience unique desert wildlife, visits to Chapman’s Baobab – one of the oldest and largest trees in Africa, bird watching and night drives. During the dry season (mid-April – end of October) activities include quad biking across the salt pans, and in the wet season (November – mid-April) guests may witness the spectacular zebra and wildebeest migration.

Day 11-15

Cape Town

The feeling in the Cape is certainly not purely African, but rather cosmopolitan, with a unique African twist. Cape Town offers incredible scenic pleasures, fascinating history, and endless coastline with pristine beaches, hiking, sailing, cycling, boating, and loads of other outdoor activities, superb nightlife, fine food and wine.  Spend a few days in Cape Town… tour the Cape Peninsula, dive with sharks – if you dare, hike Lion’s Head or take the cable car up Table Mountain, visit the colorful Bo Kaap, hit the local markets for incredible food, stroll through Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, or take a scenic drive to the world-class winelands. Robben Island is a popular tourist attraction, as are the city’s many impressive museums.
