BOTSWANA - Xigera Camp, Okavango Delta
Pronounced "Keegera" Xigera Camp is another of those classic camps that invariably delivers on every promise – and more. Many guests return to Xigera to re-live the magic of their first stay, and are never disappointed. Xigera is a classic Wilderness Safaris camp.
ACCOMMODATION:
Situated in the heart of the Delta in the Moremi Game Reserve, the camp has 10 luxury tented rooms, each with en-suite facilities and an outdoor shower. All rooms and public areas are built on raised wooden decks, ensuring good views of the surrounding floodplains. There is a comfortable lounge, pub and dining area overlooking the permanently flowing channel. Evening meals are also served in a traditional African boma under the stars.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE:
Mokoro trips and motorboat excursions are offered year round due to the permanent water in this part of the Celta. Guided walks and game drives are also offered.
Wildlife is prolific and some guests have been treated to views of leopard or lion using the footbridge connecting the Xigera island to the next island. Red Lechwe, Lion and Spotted Hyena are regularly seen, and the density of the rare sitatunga antelope is greater here than anywhere else.
Birdwatchers will be richly rewarded – Pel's Fishing Owl, African skimmers, Slaty Egret and Wattled Crane make for great sightings, not to mention raptors and kingfishers.
