Xaranna Tented Camp is a new luxury camp, built on its own Delta island within a 62 000 acre exclusive wildlife concession in the Okavango Delta.
ACCOMMODATION:
Xaranna has only 9 en suite safari tents built on wooden platforms that combine canvas and bleached timber. All the tents have sweeping views across the channels. Each tent has a romantic sala, private plunge pool, indoor bathtub and outdoor shower.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE:
Guests can experience guided walking safaris, interpretive game drives and traditional mokoro (dugout canoe) excursions. The camp is operated by And Beyond (formerly known as CC Africa).
Xaranna is situated in an area of permanent river channels which create the beds of tall papyrus, grasses, evergreen figs and ferns. This is a superb birding area, with warblers, weavers and various types of kingfishers as well as Pel’s fishing owls. The call of the fish eagle is frequently heard. Hippo are numerous and their grunts can be heard from camp. The Okavango Delta and the areas surrounding Xaranna Tented Camp are home to some unique Okavango species – red lechwe and sitatunga, while at the same time lion, cheetah and leopard may also be encountered. Concentrations of elephant and buffalo are good and sable and roan antelope are also usually seen.
The camp offers game viewing activities in the morning and late afternoons. Bird and game viewing is done either from motorized boats or mokoro, which are poled along quietly through the clear waters of the Okavango by experienced local guides who are expert polers. Activities vary and are dependent on the water levels.
