Perched on the banks of the now flowing Savute Channel, in the heart of the Chobe National Park, Savute Elephant Camp offers wonderful up-close encounters with elephant in their natural habitat. The Savute Channel, one of the greatest mysteries and fascinations of Northern Botswana, is flowing again after nearly 30 years of lying dormant.
ACCOMMODATION:
Each of the 12 luxury tented rooms is built on raised wooden platforms, offering great views, and shaded by a traditional African thatch roof. The large private decks are furnished with easy chairs and a hammock, ideal for viewing wildlife, or enjoying a private dinner. The tent interiors are luxuriously appointed with such comforts as an en-suite bathroom, private fully stocked mini bar and four poster bed.
All rooms have well appointed en-suite bathrooms and dressing areas with 'his' and 'hers' vanity units, a private outdoor shower, in room safe, hair dryer and electric heating and air conditioning options. Overhead fans cool the areas naturally and all rooms overlook the channel.
Dining is varied and always of a high quality – whether in the outdoor boma, on the deck or under cover.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE:
The area is home to high concentrations of elephant and lions. Prides of up to 40 strong are not uncommon, as are sightings of all the other major predators: the endangered wild dog, leopard, cheetah and hyena. Savute is also renowned for its excellent birding, especially during the summer months (December through March). It is also home to some very rare rock paintings drawn by the early San Bushmen, who once inhabited the region.
Game drives are richly rewarding and boating excursions on the Chobe River are a highlight, particularly at sunset.
As the camp is located within the Chobe National Park, night drives are not permitted.
