Duba Plains Camp lies in a remote area of the Okavango Delta, in an area renowned for the endless conflict between prides of lions and the herds of buffalo which sustain them. The award-winning National Geographic documentary "Relentless Enemies" recorded amazing images of these battles for survival. This interaction can be violent and sometimes painful to watch and is not for the faint-hearted.
Duba Plains Camp is a Wilderness Safaris classic camp, surrounded by wide expanses of seasonally flooded plains and shaded by tall ebony, sycamore fig and mangosteen trees. The camp is built on a tree-covered island in a 30,000 hectare concession known as the Kwedi Reserve.
ACCOMMODATION:
There are only 6 spacious tented rooms with en-suite bathrooms, outside showers and verandas with panoramic views of the Delta floodplains. The thatched lounge, dining and bar areas are built on raised decks and there is a small swimming pool with the same great views.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE:
Your stay at Duba Plains Camp begins with tracking down one of the mammoth buffalo herds to see whether the lions are on the prowl.
Herds of elephant feed on the islands and hippo grunt from the deeper channels. Tsessebe and blue wildebeest dot the plains. Red lechwe are frequently found on the fringes of the floodplains. Spotted hyena can also sometimes be seen in their own age-old conflict with the lions.
Birdlife is abundant - Rosy-throated Longclaw, Slaty Egret and Wattled Crane are often sighted.
Duba Plains Camp offers day and night game drives which often track buffalo or various lion prides around the concession.
